About the Crafty-Foodie-Musician

“My name is Erin.   And I’m a musical-foodie-fitgirl-doglover-perfectionist.”  Here’s a little bit about myself.

So here’s a little about my life.  Some would call it busy, and other boring- I think its a little of both! But I can be sure that everyday has surprises in store!

Most of my day is kept busy being an elementary music teacher for grades Kinder through fifth grade.  You just never know what to expect on a day to day basis! You may not realize this but being an elem. music teacher doesn’t just mean teaching music! It means I have to be an artist, disciplinarian, costume designer, dancer, singer, work the sound system, cafeteria/lunch duty, plus much more!  It can be difficult, but also a lot of fun when the kids are cooperative and doing well!  I see anywhere from 5-11 classes a day, for 30 minutes each.  Kinda crazy on days when I have classes back to back, from 1st, then Kinder, then 2nd, then 5th! Definitely takes some planning!

MY 2nd JOB

After school (because I enjoy it, and to help make end meet) I teach private piano lessons at a local Piano store.  Some of my kiddos have been studying with me for over four years already!  I really enjoy seeing the progress my once four years olds are making (now age 8!)

I’ve been married to the Hubby for two years now!  We met at college where we were both studying Music.  We were married in June 2008, in an outdoor ceremony, next to a resaca (think South Texas version of a lake). Hubs did a complete 360 regarding his major and is now a IT (Information Technology) Grad student right now, so I’m his “sugar momma,” at least for a while.  Life together has its ups and downs, but I’m glad we’re in it together. 🙂

Our baby is “Deco,” our little (for the time being) Dobie/Lab mix puppy that we adopted from a local no-kill pet rescue. We adopted him this past June, 2010. We’re still adjusting to life with our little guy- he sure keeps us on our toes!

My relationship with God is also a huge factor in my life.  I don’t believe in religion, just a personal relationship, although I respect everyone, regardless of their faith. He has always been there for me, and provided everything I need during my life, even through trying times.  I try my (imperfect) best to be a light to others around me and offer encouragement to those who need it.   I won’t be preachy, but attempt to show my faith through the way that I live my life.

I love cooking, although during the school year I’m sometimes more worried about putting my feet up than cooking a gourmet dinner. 😉  I love vegetables, and I think I could almost be a vegetarian just because of my natural food tendencies.  I enjoy eating meat occasionally, but if I really had to pick my favorite meal, it probably wouldn’t be my first choice…  When I was little I didn’t like eating it because I thought chewing it was too much work! However, I’m married to a definite carnivore who’s response to a salad is “that’s all?!” I also have a BIG sweet tooth, so sugar will definitely be present in this blog!

I’ve also been big into fitness and health since I was a teenager, although I initially had some misconceptions about food and exercise when I was younger. (that’s a story for another day!) I don’t believe in diets or eliminating anything completely from your diet just to lose weight (think No-Carbs= no no!).  Although I try to stay away from refined sugars, artificial ingredients and too much white flour, I have found that eating a rainbow, moderation, and exercise is the best “diet” to be on.  I try to exercise at two to three times at the gym during the week, usually doing some Zumba/BodyFlow/Treadmill combinations.  I’ve recently got into doing more strength training, making use of both free weights and the machines at the gym.  I used to think that would make a girl “bulk up” but after much reading in magazines, the blog world, and exercise books, I have come to feel that is not the case. I have enjoyed gaining strength in my body and I’m working on setting a personal record for chin-ups and push-ups!

That’s me in a nutshell! – Erin

Love this page! I can relate to so much of your life! The busy schedule, the hectic kiddo-teaching-lifestyle, and being married to a carnivore but not being crazy about meat myself. Can’t wait to read more!

yay! I thought the same thing when I found your blog! It’s so neat to find others with similar interests even in states so far apart!
